NTT DATA, a global digital business and IT services leader, has been recognized for developing and implementing an application based on metaverse technology to improve the user experience by managing telco capabilities. The application integrates with standardized APIs, allowing telcos to expose their data and capabilities to third parties. These enable, among other functionalities, improvements in bandwidth and immersive experiences, transitioning from augmented reality to virtual reality. In addition, users can shop in virtual stores, and charges are added directly to the mobile operator's bills; this is one of the challenges posed by the commercial implications of the metaverse.
This project received the award for "Best Contribution to the TM FORUM Assets," the event held in Copenhagen, which brought together digital and communications service providers, telcos, cable operators, network operators, cloud service providers, digital infrastructure providers, software providers, equipment suppliers, system integrators and management consultancies from all around the world. This award was achieved after its presentation at the DTW (Digital Transformation World) of the TM Forum as part of the Catalyst Program, intended to catalyze innovation-based projects with greater potential.

This application development is a use case of the Open Gateway initiative, in collaboration with Telefónica, Orange, Vodafone, and TIM, among others, which was presented at the Mobile World Congress 2023. Open Gateway launched the challenge of enabling and exposing the capabilities of telecommunications companies to allow third parties to access their valuable information, such as changing the network speed or verifying a user's location, always with the user's consent. For this, a standardized API-based architecture was developed.
NTT DATA has an extensive background in the telecommunications industry and has collaborated on several projects with Telefónica. Last February, both companies achieved a milestone by demonstrating a pioneering end-to-end, multi-vendor Network Slicing as a Service solution.
