Habität, a solution to facilitate working safely at the office

The year of 2020 has put a huge challenge on the table for companies, with the change of paradigm caused by the health crisis. The return to normal demands that companies that want to be competitive make a technological investment to help them manage new work organization methods and different social behavior standards.

Current and future business strategies will be defined by a steep investment in technology, which will guarantee employees’ safety, reduce the environmental footprint and lead to improved productivity, optimizing each and every area of companies. To do this, organizations must equip work spaces with new infrastructures and employ innovative systems that prioritize the safety of their professionals in their daily work lives. Only those that rise to this new level will be able to move forward unimpeded in doing business.

And this is exactly where the Internet of Things (IoT) comes into play, which has emerged as one of the main protagonists during the de-escalation and safe return to work process. Companies like BBVA and Telefónica are implementing these solutions now, including thermal cameras, cleaning robots, occupancy-control sensors, contact-free gel dispensers, and tracking applications of possible infection sources inside offices.

Based on the possibilities of IoT, at everis we have launched Habität, an asset whose main advantage is empowering organizations of any size to optimize their resources and expenditures, increasing the usage level of all areas of the workplace to decrease the need for leased square meters and saving on general services and consumption. To achieve this, the solution employs a specific hardware, along with a centralized management system that displays real-time information. This translates into fast decision making, which in turn facilitates the effective management of both people and resources.

Via this solution, the most common office areas (meeting rooms, offices, desks, break rooms) will have movement sensors and cameras, to permit continuous real-time monitoring of workstations. Data are compiled by smart devices, sent to a cloud server, and fed to a display platform that provides the pertinent information to make decisions. It will provide simple integration with other systems via API.

This display platform gives users real-time information on the occupation of desks, meeting rooms and common areas. It also lets reports be extracted that are based on different aggregation levels, which can be fully personalized according to each customer’s preferences and needs.

Moreover, the installation of Habität also entails the creation of an IoT distributed network that operates within offices and connects other sensors and devices, to collect data and even act on specific already-installed devices. Let’s imagine—for example—that a regulation is decreed that makes it compulsory to measure environmental quality in the office. Habität would make it easier to control ventilation if certain pollution levels were reached.

At everis, we have already implemented this system in our corporate headquarters, which is why we are already fully aware of its many economic benefits. To give just a few examples, we have reduced occupation of workstations by 20%, with energy savings of 30%. These data will translate into an annual average saving of 2 million euros and a reduction of polluting gases of 177 ton/CO2.
